Torre Zambra stands on the first plot cultivated by the Family since 1910 and is one of the most historic wineries in Abruzzo, founded by Laurentino De Cerchio in 1961 and made great by his son Riccardo in the following years. The vineyards of the winery are located on the hill with perfect south-east exposure, between 120 and 200 meters above sea level. The soils are calcareous-clayey, rich in humus and nutrients. In Villamagna the De Cerchio family grows Pecorino, Passerina and Trebbiano grapes but Montepulciano is the master. The grapes are refined by soft pressing, alcoholic fermentation in steel barrels at a controlled temperature, subsequently the fermentation takes place first in vitrified cement for about 12 months and then to finish in the bottle for about 3 months.

The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo of Torre Zambra presents itself as an oenological expression of notable complexity and adherence to the Abruzzo terroir. This red wine, obtained mainly from the native Montepulciano grape variety, stands out for its robust polyphenolic structure, a layered aromatic profile and a remarkable capacity for evolution. The production of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo by Torre Zambra follows rigorous winemaking protocols, aimed at enhancing the intrinsic characteristics of the grape variety and the terroir. Vineyard management is crucial, with particular attention to planting density, pruning practices and control of yields per hectare, in order to guarantee an optimal concentration of the grapes. Red vinification involves maceration of the crushed and destemmed grapes at a controlled temperature, in order to optimally extract the colouring substances, tannins and aromas from the skins. The duration of maceration can vary depending on the desired wine style and the characteristics of the vintage. Alcoholic fermentation generally takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with the use of selected yeasts. An important phase can be represented by the refinement, which for the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo di Torre Zambra can take place in stainless steel tanks, in wooden barrels of different sizes (barriques, tonneaux, large barrels) or in a combination of these. The refinement in wood contributes to স্মুথing the tannins, enriching the aromatic profile with tertiary notes and giving greater complexity and longevity to the wine. A period of refinement in the bottle follows before being released for sale, necessary to further harmonize the components of the wine.

To the eye, the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo di Torre Zambra manifests itself with an intense and deep ruby hue, often with violet reflections that tend to garnet with maturation in the bottle. Its clarity is generally high, and the consistency, assessable through the formation of arches on the walls of the glass, suggests a good alcohol content and dry extract. On the nose, the olfactory bouquet is broad and complex. In its youth, primary notes of ripe red and black fruit, such as cherry, blackberry and plum, are perceived, accompanied by floral hints of violet and light herbaceous nuances. With refinement, more evolved tertiary notes emerge, such as sweet spices (vanilla, licorice), tobacco, leather and sometimes balsamic or ethereal hints, deriving both from maturation in wood (where applicable) and from evolution in the bottle. In the mouth, the attack is generally warm and enveloping, thanks to a well-integrated alcoholic presence. The tannic texture is marked but, in most of Torre Zambra's interpretations, it presents itself with good finesse and balance, contributing significantly to the structure and persistence of the wine. The acidity, generally moderate, plays a crucial role in balancing the richness of the fruit and the alcoholic component, giving freshness and drinkability. The finish is long and complex, with an intense aromatic persistence that reproduces the fruity and spicy notes perceived on the nose. Torre Zambra's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, with its structure and complexity, pairs well with dishes of good intensity such as roasted or grilled red meats, game, first courses with meat sauce and mature cheeses. Its richness and tannins balance the strong flavors of the food, creating a harmonious taste.
