The recent history of the Colterenzio winery is made up of rebels and pioneering winemakers who in 1960, initially in 26, started their own agricultural cooperative to market the wine independently. Thus it was that in the small village of Schreckbichl (in Italian Colterenzio) in South Tyrol, the homonymous winery was born with the then ambitious and pioneering goal of producing quality wine. In 1979 the enlightened winemaker Luis Raifer took over in the role of director, who recognizing the qualities of the land, the climate, the terroir and the local winemaking expertise, recognized its potential in producing excellent wines, bringing South Tyrol to levels until then unexpected. With this clear and well-defined vision, he began to give life to his own project in his "Lafòa" farm on a sunny hill kissed by the sun, where he replaced the Schiava vines with the Cabernet Sauvignon and later Sauvignon Blanc varieties. But he did not limit himself to this, but introduced a new viticulture method that favored low yields compared to high quality grapes destined for great wines. This methodology imposed itself within the entire cooperative, experimenting with new varieties but preserving the method, which was particularly accurate in the vineyard as in the cellar. After 40 years from that turning point, from 26 founding winemakers today they have become 300, who with their families, some for passion or for work, contribute every year, autumn after autumn to the success of the great Colterenzio wines.
Lafóa Pinot Nero Colterenzio is a wine with a strong character, elegant and rich in finesse. The grapes are grown with espalier systems with vines aged between 15-35 years that are located at an altitude of about 400 m a.s.l. Most of them come from soils of morainic origin, composed of porphyritic and dolomitic rocks. The other part is cultivated on gravelly, clayey-calcareous soils. Then it undergoes alcoholic fermentation in wooden barrels for about 3 weeks with a maceration at a controlled temperature of 25-28 ° C, the malolactic fermentation in wooden barrels and the subsequent aging of the wine for another 12 months partly in new barriques and in partly in second / third passage barriques.
Lafóa Pinot Nero Colterenzio is a wine with a ruby red color, good body and elegance, created on the model of the great Burgundy Pinot Noirs, complex, balanced, persistent and with great aging potential. On the nose, fruity aromas of cherries, raspberries, small red fruits, and fine spices, well integrated with hints of toasting. On the palate it is full-bodied, full, complex with soft tannins and a long and elegant finish.
