Fleccianello della Pieve is the spearhead of the Fontodi farm, produced with a selected first choice of Sangiovese grapes in purity in the best vintages. 2006 is an excellent year, and as befits an important wine, a long rest in the cellar is recommended before being uncorked on an important occasion.
The Manetti family has owned the Fontodi winery since 1968, testifying to a great affection for the Chianti area already as a historical producer of the famous local terracotta for centuries. This link with the places and its historical traditions has generated an ever-growing knowledge of the vineyards and the art of making Sangiovese. The estate extends to Panzano in Chianti for 170 hectares of which 80 are vineyards, where certified organic agriculture is successfully practiced in which not only is the use of chemicals prohibited, but all the resources offered by the land are optimized by increasing at most the sustainability regime.
Flaccianello della Pieve is among the most important wines in terms of structure and personality among those produced on the hills of central Tuscany. After the selection of the best Sangiovese grapes, vinification involves spontaneous fermentation on indigenous yeasts and subsequent maturation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures for at least 3 weeks. Maturation takes place in Troncais and Allier barriques for at least 24 months. The result is an excellent wine with a bright and intense ruby red color, with a bouquet full of aromas with floral notes of violet, currant, morello cherry and sour cherries, up to hints of leather and tobacco. Warm on the palate, it's characterized by soft and velvety tannins and a long and persistent finish with pleasant spicy hints
