Guido Berlucchi is an Italian winery based in Borgonato, in the province of Brescia, famous for being the first winery to produce Franciacorta, the classic Italian method par excellence. Founded in 1955 by Guido Berlucchi, a descendant of the noble Lana de' Terzi family, the company immediately demonstrated a strong vocation for innovation and quality, contributing significantly to the enhancement of the territory and the spread of the culture of sparkling wine in Italy. The origins of Berlucchi date back to the 1950s, when Guido Berlucchi, fascinated by the production of sparkling wines, decided to undertake an ambitious project: to create a high-quality wine, capable of competing with the best French champagnes. The meeting with the winemaker Franco Ziliani, considered the father of Franciacorta, was crucial to the birth of this project. Ziliani, with his great experience and passion, supported Berlucchi in the creation of the first Franciacorta, sealed in bottles in 1961. Franciacorta is a sparkling wine obtained exclusively from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc grapes, grown in the vineyards of Franciacorta, a hilly area located between the lakes of Iseo and Garda. Production takes place according to the classic method, which involves a double fermentation: the first in tanks, the second in the bottle, where the wine rests on the lees for at least 18 months. Guido Berlucchi was a pioneer in the production of Franciacorta, introducing technological innovations and selecting the best grape clones, in order to obtain wines of the highest quality. Today, the company is internationally recognized as one of the leading exponents of classic method sparkling wine production in Italy. The historic Berlucchi cellar, dug ten meters deep, is a fascinating and evocative place, where the bottles rest in silence for years. In recent years, the company has invested significantly in the modernization of the winery and the sustainability of the vineyards, adopting environmentally friendly agricultural practices and increasingly focusing on the quality of the grapes. Berlucchi's vineyards extend over an area of over 100 hectares and are located in hilly areas, with southern and south-western exposure. The soil is predominantly calcareous-clayey, rich in minerals, which gives the wines great complexity and minerality. Guido Berlucchi has always been committed to protecting the environment and enhancing the territory. The company has adopted a certified environmental management system and has invested in innovative technologies to reduce the environmental impact of production.
Berlucchi 61 Franciacorta Extra Brut is a refined expression of the Metodo Classico, known for its full expression of the terroir and its extreme dryness. It is produced mainly from Chardonnay grapes, with a small percentage of Pinot Noir, sourced from the most suitable vineyards in Franciacorta. The Extra Brut stands out for its very low sugar content after disgorging, which enhances the purity of the fruit and its minerality.
It has a bright straw yellow color, embellished with greenish reflections. The perlage is very fine, persistent and lively, with numerous bubbles that rise elegantly to the surface. On the nose it offers a complex and inviting bouquet. Fresh notes of citrus fruits such as grapefruit and lemon, hints of green apple and pear are perceived, enriched by delicate nuances of bread crust and yeast, the result of the long stay on the yeasts. Light mineral sensations may also emerge. On the palate it is tense, vibrant and very fresh. Its extra-brut characteristic makes it extremely dry, but not austere, thanks to a pleasant flavor and minerality that balance the acidity. Notes of citrus and crunchy fruit return, with a long and clean finish that encourages the next sip. Its structure makes it persistent and harmonious. Perfect on its own as a high-quality aperitif, it stimulates the appetite with its freshness, it pairs beautifully with oysters, fish tartare and raw seafood, where its acidity and minerality enhance its freshness, excellent with steamed, baked or grilled fish dishes, and with seafood risottos, also excellent with delicate white meats, such as poultry or rabbit, prepared simply, it pairs well with fresh or medium-aged cheeses, including goat cheeses.
