Founded in 1811 and located in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica region, in Pedemonte di San Pietro in Cariano (Verona), Santa Sofia is one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in the Veneto region.
The company's historic headquarters are housed in the splendid 16th-century Villa Palladiana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Led for over fifty years by the Begnoni family, Santa Sofia combines tradition, elegance, and innovation, showcasing the native Veronese grape varieties—Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella—and producing wines that best represent the authenticity of the terroir.

Santa Sofia's Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG is a Venetian excellence that embodies the tradition, history, and winemaking mastery of the Valpolicella region. Produced with select native grapes—Corvina and Corvinone (70%) and Rondinella (30%)—handpicked from the most suitable hillside vineyards in the Valpolicella Classica area. After harvesting, the grapes are dried for approximately 90–120 days in suitable rooms to concentrate sugars, aromas, and structure. Vinification involves fermentation and lengthy maceration on the skins. The wine then ages for at least 36 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by further bottle aging before release. This is a wine with a strong structure, requiring time to fully reveal itself on the palate, but rewarding with character, depth, and the ability to age well.

In the glass, Amarone di Santa Sofia presents a deep, almost impenetrable ruby ​​color with garnet highlights that intensify with age. Rich and complex aromas: ripe cherry, black cherry, and plum jam, complemented by spicy notes of chocolate, toasted tobacco, balsamic notes, and occasionally warmer nuances of coffee, carob, or licorice. The entry is full, intense, and enveloping. A powerful wine, with good tannic consistency, yet well-balanced thanks to a freshness that lightens the perception. The finish is persistent and warm, with fruity and spicy overtones. Its elegance makes it enjoyable even after several years in the bottle. Perfect for rich dishes: structured red meats, braised meats, game, and rich sauced or stewed dishes. It enhances meat-based dishes where character is needed. It is ideal with aged cheeses, even spicy ones, and is a meditation wine, suitable for enjoying on its own to appreciate its full depth.
