Founded in 1811 and located in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica region, in Pedemonte di San Pietro in Cariano (Verona), Santa Sofia is one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in the Veneto region.
The company's historic headquarters are housed in the splendid 16th-century Villa Palladiana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Led for over fifty years by the Begnoni family, Santa Sofia combines tradition, elegance, and innovation, showcasing the native Veronese grape varieties—Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella—and producing wines that best represent the authenticity of the terroir.
Each bottle tells a story of balance and passion, the result of meticulous work in the vineyard and cellar, with full respect for nature and time.

The Valpolicella Ripasso DOC Superiore from Santa Sofia is born from the combination of the freshness of Valpolicella and the structure of Amarone. After traditional fermentation, the wine is "ripassato" (re-passed) over the pomace of Amarone or Recioto, an ancient practice that enriches its body and aromatic complexity. The result is an intense, harmonious, and velvety red wine, combining elegance and power, typical of the finest Veronese winemaking tradition. Aged for approximately nine months in Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a further period in the bottle, imparts balance, depth, and smoothness, enhancing the wine's natural richness.

On the palate, Valpolicella Ripasso displays a brilliant ruby ​​red color with garnet highlights that hint at its maturity and refinement. On the nose, it offers broad and complex aromas: notes of cherries in alcohol, dried plums, and blackberries, accompanied by nuances of sweet spices, licorice, and light toasted notes from the wood aging. On the palate, it is enveloping and full, with soft tannins, balanced freshness, and a long, harmonious finish, leaving a pleasant fruity and spicy aftertaste. Perfect with red meats, roasts, game, braised meats, and mature cheeses, it also pairs beautifully with savory first courses, such as lasagna or tagliatelle with ragù. A versatile, elegant wine with a strong personality, ideal for social occasions or to be enjoyed alone as a meditation wine.
