The Costa Vecchia of Pietra Pinta is an elegant and complex white wine, characterized by aromas of white fruit, citrus and a distinctive minerality that recalls its coastal terroir. On the palate it offers freshness, good structure and persistence, with a savory and harmonious finish. Excellent with fish dishes and white meats.

The Pietra Pinta company is located in Cori, in Lazio, geographically 55 kilometers south of Rome and 25 from the provincial capital Latina. The town is located on the western side of the Lepini mountains, which surround it to the northeast, forming a splendid backdrop with stone quarries and centuries-old olive trees. The company's name comes from the homonymous location on the slopes of the Cori hills where legend has it that following a bloody battle between the followers of Mario and Silla (80 BC) a large stone was dyed purple in memory of the event. The vineyards are located in the countryside of Cori, on the slopes of the Lepini mountains, under the influence of the sea currents that come from the Lazio coast. This guarantees hot and dry summers followed by cool and breezy autumns, with strong temperature variations between day and night during the ripening period of the grapes. The soils, of volcanic origin, are medium-textured clay, with a balanced supply of nutrients, which allow the development of quality viticulture. Nero Buono, an ancient vineyard typical of the territory of the municipality of Cori, has always been cultivated in our vineyards. In recent years, it has been the subject of studies that have enhanced its organoleptic characteristics, making it rediscovered by the public as a great treasure that had remained in obscurity for centuries, but which, like all small productions, always has something new to show us. Thus, this vine of ours, unique in its kind, has been a source of inspiration for us to recover and relaunch local production, as well as an example of the quality that our territory is able to offer. Our vineyards are cultivated with counter-espalier with simple guyot pruning. The newly conceived vineyard has 4500 vines per hectare with a production of 1.5 kg of grapes per plant. The management involves first thinning the shoots and then the bunches, while treatments and fertilizations follow the philosophy of low environmental impact agriculture. The harvest takes place when the grapes have reached perfect ripeness, which on average occurs in the first ten days of October.
The Costa Vecchia di Pietra Pinta represents an oenological expression of remarkable finesse, meticulously crafted to reflect the peculiarities of its terroir of origin. Its vinification is based on respect for the intrinsic characteristics of the grapes, selected from specific plots that best express the coastal microclimate. The process begins with a harvest at the optimal moment of phenolic ripeness, followed by a soft pressing of the bunches, whole or destemmed, in order to obtain a free-run must of high quality and aromatic purity. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature to preserve the fragrance and delicacy of the primary aromas. In some cases, a portion of the must may ferment or mature in wooden barrels of different sizes and toasting levels, providing additional complexity and structure without overpowering the distinctive character of the wine. Post-fermentation aging, which can take place in steel, wood or a combination of both for a variable period, contributes to the balance, complexity and stability of the wine. A further period of aging in the bottle precedes its release on the market. Thanks to its balanced acidity and richness of extracts, the Costa Vecchia di Pietra Pinta has good evolutionary potential in the bottle.
It has a hue that varies from intense straw yellow to pale gold, with a crystalline clarity and a consistency that manifests itself with good arching in the glass. The olfactory profile is complex and fine, featuring notes of ripe white fruit (peach, melon), fresh citrus (lemon, pink grapefruit), delicate floral nuances (broom, acacia), hints of aromatic herbs (thyme, sage) and a marked minerality reminiscent of flint or saltiness. Any aging in wood may add light notes of vanilla or hazelnut. The entry in the mouth is characterized by a pleasant freshness, supported by a well-integrated acidity. The structure is medium-bodied, with an elegant texture and a notable gustatory persistence. There is a coherence with the olfactory sensations, with returns of ripe fruit, citrus and the distinctive minerality. The finish is clean, harmonious and leaves a pleasant flavor. The Costa Vecchia di Pietra Pinta pairs excellently with fish and shellfish dishes, even elaborate preparations. It goes well with delicate white meats, medium-aged cheeses and preparations enriched with aromatic herbs. Its minerality makes it an ideal companion for seafood cuisine.
