Cantina Marramiero is a leading entity in the Abruzzo wine scene, distinguishing itself for an approach that combines rigorous winemaking principles with a profound valorization of the native terroir. Founded in 1953, the company has progressively evolved its production philosophy, orienting itself towards the creation of high-quality wines, authentic expressions of the pedoclimatic peculiarities of the region. The winery is located in the heart of the province of Pescara, in an area characterized by significant altimetric variability and a heterogeneous geological composition. The vineyards extend over hills that benefit from a temperate microclimate, with significant temperature variations between day and night, a crucial factor for the synthesis of complex aromatic compounds and for maintaining a balanced acidity in the grapes. The soils have a predominantly clayey-calcareous matrix, with variable fractions of sand and skeleton, giving the wines structure, minerality and longevity. The production philosophy of Cantina Marramiero is oriented towards the creation of wines that are an authentic expression of the Abruzzo region, with particular attention to enhancing the peculiarities of the individual crus and the different vintages. The primary objective is to produce high-quality wines, with personality, elegance and longevity, capable of competing with the excellence of the national and international wine scene. The constant search for excellence is manifested in meticulous care of every phase of the production process, from the vineyard to the bottle, and in a continuous updating of the winemaking techniques in compliance with tradition.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from Cantina Marramiero represents a significant and high-quality expression of the denomination, embodying the company's dedication to the enhancement of the native Abruzzo grape variety. This wine is the result of meticulous attention in the vineyard and a winemaking process aimed at preserving the varietal characteristics and conferring complexity and elegance. This wine is a single-varietal, obtained from 100% Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grapes from the winery's own vineyards, located in the heart of the Abruzzo region, in hilly areas suited to quality viticulture. The selection of vineyards is based on factors such as optimal sun exposure, moderate altitude and the specific composition of the soil, which generally has a clayey-calcareous matrix, ideal for conferring structure and minerality to the wine. The agronomic practices adopted are oriented towards sustainability and the production of healthy and ripe grapes, with particular attention to controlling yields per hectare through targeted pruning and canopy management. The harvest is carried out manually or mechanically depending on the specific plots and the quality objective, with a selection of the bunches that reach optimal phenolic ripeness. The winemaking process of Marramiero's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is conducted with technical rigor. The grapes, after destemming and soft pressing, ferment in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with the use of selected yeasts that enhance the aromatic characteristics of the vine. Maceration on the skins has a variable duration, generally between 10 and 15 days, in order to extract color, noble tannins and aromatic precursors in a balanced way. The racking precedes the malolactic fermentation, which occurs spontaneously or is induced to soften the acidity of the wine and give greater roundness and complexity. Marramiero's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo has good aging potential, generally between 3 and 5 years, during which it can evolve by developing greater aromatic complexity and further softening the tannic texture. However, it is also a wine designed to be appreciated in its youth for its freshness and vivacity.
Intense ruby red color with purple reflections, indicative of the youth and good concentration of anthocyanins typical of Montepulciano. With the evolution in the bottle, garnet nuances may appear. On the nose it presents itself with an intense fruity bouquet, characterized by notes of ripe red and black fruit (cherry, blackberry, plum), accompanied by floral scents (violet) and light spicy notes (black pepper, licorice) resulting from the refinement. The olfactory intensity is generally good and persistent. In the mouth, the wine is distinguished by a good structure, with present but well-integrated tannins and a pleasant freshness given by a balanced acidity. The body is medium-full, with a harmonious and persistent finish that recalls the fruity and spicy notes perceived on the nose. The drink is generally pleasant and satisfying. Marramiero's Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a versatile wine that pairs well with first courses with red sauces, not too elaborate white and red meats, medium-aged cheeses and pizza.
