The history of the Querciabella winery is linked to the passion for wine and for the land, which unites most of the producers who today practice biodynamic agriculture. It all began in 1974 when Giuseppe Castiglioni, owner of a company in Mexico and a great wine lover, decided to buy a piece of land on the hills of Ruffoli in Greve in Chianti called Vigna di Querciabella. The idea was to retire to the farmhouse immersed in that hectare of vineyards to produce wine for personal use and share it with his closest friends. From that dream one of the most renowned and innovative wineries in Tuscany was born, one of the first in Italy that first converted to organic farming in 1988 and then to biodynamics in the 2000s, thanks to Sebastiano Castiglioni, son of Giuseppe. Now from that first hectare originally purchased, the company owns 100 hectares in one of the most famous wine-growing areas of Tuscany where Chianti Classico reigns, on the border with the Maremma, and from that initial will of Giuseppe Castiglioni not only the vine is grown pincipe of the winery the Sangiovese, but also the international vines Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco, from which the excellent wines that have made the Querciabella winery famous all over the world are born.

The Chianti Classico di Querciabella was the first wine produced by Giuseppe Castiglioni from the Sangiovese grapes of his vineyard. This Riserva version is the result of a careful selection process of the best lots in a limited area in the municipalities of Radda in Chianti, Gaiole and Greve. The vineyards are located at an altitude from 350 to 550 meters above sea level, cultivated on soils with different compositions that enhance their personality. The grapes are harvested by hand and the selected bunches are de-stemmed and fermented spontaneously with a maceration of 12 days. The wine is then aged for 16/20 months in 20% new barriques and tonneaux.
