The Chianti Classico by Querciabella expresses all the nobility of this famous wine zone at the first sip and is the fruit of the best vintages. A wine with an intense red color, a captivating acidity and fruity and spicy notes from violet to dried origan, cinnamon. One of the greatest expressions of biodynamic agriculture, acclaimed by wine lovers all over the world.
The history of the Querciabella wine cellar is strictly connected to the passion for wine and for the land, which unites most of the producers who practice biodynamic agriculture today. It all started in 1974 when Giuseppe Castiglioni, owner of a company in Mexico and a great wine lover, decided to buy a plot of land on the hills of Ruffoli in Greve in Chianti called "Vigna di Querciabella". The idea was to retire himself to the farmhouse immersed in that hectare of vineyards to produce wine for personal use and share it with his closest friends. From that dream was born one of the most renowned and innovative wineries in Tuscany, one of the first in Italy that was converted in 1988 to organic farming first and then to biodynamic farming in the 2000s, thanks to Sebastiano Castiglioni, Giuseppe's son. Right now, from that first hectare purchased originally, the company owns 100 hectares in one of the most famous wine areas of Tuscany where the Chianti Classico reigns, on the border with the Maremma, and from that initial will of Giuseppe Castiglioni to cultivate not only Sangiovese, as the main vine, but also the international vines Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco, todays are produced such excellent wines that have made the Querciabella winery famous all over the world.
Querciabella Chianti Classico was the first wine produced by Giuseppe Castiglioni from the Sangiovese grapes of his vineyard. The Riserva version is the result of a careful selection process of the best lots in a limited area in the municipalities of Radda in Chianti, Gaiole and Greve. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 350 to 550 meters above sea level, cultivated on soils with different compositions that enhance their personality. The grapes are harvested by hand and the selected bunches are de-stemmed and fermented spontaneously with a 12-day maceration. The wine is then aged for 16/20 months in barriques and tonneaux for 20% new. On the palate this complexity is clearly perceived in its intriguing wealth of sensations.
