Port Ruighe Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The history of the Talisker distillery begins as far back as 1830, founded by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill on the Isle of Skye, in the Scottish Highlands in a landscape of verdant coasts and jagged rocky bays full of charm, bathed by the North Sea. Here we produce one of the single malts most appreciated by connoisseurs that the writer Louis Stevenson defined as "the best drink in the world". The manufacturing process is very accurate, respectful of tradition, with a double distillation system. But the real success of this distillate is the raw material, that is the malt and spring water already rich in peat that flows from the undergrounds of "Cnoc-nan-speirag", hawk hill in Gaelic. Hence the intense and peaty flavor that makes it a unique single malt and for "cultured" palates.

Talisker Port Ruighe Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a distinctive expression of the Talisker distillery on the Isle of Skye, renowned for its maritime character and lively spice. This particular variant further refines the classic Talisker profile through a secondary maturation process in former port casks. This finish gives the whisky added complexity, complementing the signature coastal and peppery notes with hints of dark fruit and sweetness. On the nose, Talisker Port Ruighe presents a deep amber hue, with copper highlights suggesting its interaction with the port casks. On the nose, it reveals a complex and layered bouquet. A moderate peat smoke, with hints of iodine and seascapes that evoke the distillery’s coastal environment. Overlaid with port influences, it brings aromas of ripe berry fruit, such as plums and blackberries, and a subtle sweetness reminiscent of caramel and treacle. There are also subtle spicy notes, such as black pepper and a hint of cinnamon, which blend harmoniously with the smoky base. With the addition of a small amount of water, the flavour profile can evolve, enhancing the fruitiness and slightly toning down the intensity of the smoke, allowing further nuances of dark chocolate and candied citrus to emerge. On the palate, Talisker Port Ruighe offers a crisp, lively attack, characterised by the distinctive Talisker spiciness, with a strong presence of black pepper to warm the palate. The sweetness from the Port casks is balanced, bringing notes of dried fruit, such as raisins and dates, and a touch of dark honey. The smoky component is well integrated, not overwhelming, but persistent and complex, with nuances of burnt wood and light tar. The texture is soft and velvety, with a good roundness that envelops the palate.
