The Orcadian Glansa

Producer: Region: Scozia

The Orcadian Glansa is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky produced by hand on the Orkney Islands in Scotland that ages in first-bourbon ex-filling barrels, to then be aged in barrels previously containing peated whisky, increasing its richness and depth. Tasty and soft on the palate, it confirms the olfactory scents with a smoky finish and a timid hint of peat.

The Scapa distillery now owned by Pernot Ricard, was founded in 1885 on the outskirts of the city of Kirkwall by Macfarlane and Towsend. The only distillery in Scotland to still be equipped with an ancient wash still Lomond, that is, a copper alembic that has the typical characteristics of discontinuous distillation while maintaining the specifications of the column stills. A craft distillery that keeps a centuries-old tradition alive.

Glansa in Old Norse, an ancient Germanic language, means stormy skies and indicates the contrast between the quiet of the distillery and the stormy environment that surrounds it. Being a whisky finished aging in peated barrels, it responds to the need to preserve the distillery's own characteristic of not using peat in the processing process, but of hinting the hints in a gentle way on the palate through the refinement technique.
