The rum Zacapa Gran Reserva 23 derives only from cane sugar "Miel Virgen", unlike most rum based on molasses. Precisely this characteristic, together with the distillation dedicated to it, guarantees a vastness and uniqueness of aromas. The process begins with fermentation of 5 days with a yeast extracted from pineapple and continues with aging (Solera) in oak barrels (previously used for Bourbon whiskey, Sherry and Perdo Ximenez wines), not before a combination of rum aged up to 15 years.
Zacapa Gran Reserva 23 has an intense amber yellow color with coppery reflections and releases to the nose pleasant aromas of ripe exotic fruit, yellow flowers, cream and sweet spices. The taste, enveloping, sweet and intense, closes with hints of wood and dried figs of long and elegant persistence.
