Jefferson is an Amaro Importante (important), made with fresh herbs and precious citrus fruits from Calabria, rosemary, oregano, lemons, bitter oranges, grapefruit, bergamot and Sila gentian. We can define it the essence of Calabria, awarded in London as the best herbal liqueur at the World's Drink Awards.
The history of the Vecchio Magazzino Doganale is compelling, it's the result of tireless research for 7 long years by Ivan Trombino, the award-winning alchemist, who reconstructed the adventurous exploits of Captain Jefferson, who along with the sailors Roger and Gil, driving his ship full of Rum, en route from Panama to Genoa, it sank in 1871 on the Calabrian Tyrrhenian coasts between Fiumefreddo and Fuscaldo. It was then that they came across the old customs warehouse (Vecchio Magazzino Doganale) run by Raffaele Trombino known as "u Giocondo", with whom they began distilling ancient liqueurs with very precious herbs collected in the flourishing Calabrian countryside. Since then all the secrets and ancient recipes born of this incredible story seemed to have been lost, until Ivan Trombino, a descendant of Raffaele, found a way to bring them back into vogue by conquering the whole world with its natural liqueurs branded as Vecchio Magazzino Doganale.
The Amaro Jefferson is a natural and authentic liqueur, obtained by infusion from herbs, fruits and precious citrus fruits that we find abundant on the Calabrian coasts. On the nose it's strong, initially bitter to the palate it softens and becomes soft and balanced on a persistent herbaceous finish. The observance of the ancient recipes and the care with which they have been reworked in our days give life to a unique bitter of its kind.
